PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus constituted so that focus control can be performed by an AF system in matching with the intention of user. SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus includes a first detection means 114 for generating first information, corresponding to the contrast state of an imaged video; a second detection means 116 for detecting second information different from the first information; and a first operating means 117 that is operated by the user. A control means 115 performs controls, such that when the first operating means is not operated, the focusing control is performed without the use of the second information but using the first information; whereas, when the first operating means has been operated, the focusing control is performed by using at least the second information.
