PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polarizing element which exhibits superior characteristics for light beams having different wavelength ranges.

SOLUTION: A polarizing element includes a plurality of polarizing sections having a plurality of needle-shaped particles dispersed in a base material such that long axes of the first needle-shaped particles are aligned in substantially the same direction. The specification including at least one of a material, a distribution density, a diameter, and a dimension in the long axis direction with respect to the needle-shaped particles is set for each of the polarizing sections.
