<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new organ preservation solution suitable for machine perfusion, for maintaining viability of organs, parts of organs and tissues. <P>SOLUTION: The organ preservation solution comprises a tissue culture medium such as Minimal Essential Medium Eagle (MEM), Dulbecco's Modified Eagle Medium (DMEM) and Williams E medium, and satisfies the conditions that the organic preservation solution has (a) a pH ranging from 7.0 to 7.8, (b) a minimum buffering capacity (beta) of at least 20 measured in Slykes units, (c) an osmolarity ranging from 300 to 350 mOsmol, (d) an oncotic pressure ranging from 20 to 30 mmHg; (e) a [Na+] concentration of less than 140 mM and a [K+] concentration of less than 25 mM, with a ratio [Na+]/[K+] of at least 5:1, and (f) a higher concentration in arginine, asparagine, cysteine, glutamine, methionine or the like compared to the standard concentration of a Williams E medium. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
