PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal orientating agent to obtain a liquid crystal oriented film which rarely produces afterimages and can give a liquid crystal display element with high display quality, the liquid crystal orientating agent being able to correspond to any orientating agent viscosity and solvent composition required for various types of coating methods.

SOLUTION: The liquid crystal orientating agent includes a diamine, a tetracarboxylic dianhydride, and a polyamic acid obtained from a monoamine having a hydroxyl group or its derivative.
