A portable hand-held device is provided having components housed in a body. The components include a power supply, an image sensor for sensing images of a scene, a flash unit for illuminating the scene, a network interface for sharing images between the device and a network, and an integrated circuit processor. The processor has integrated circuit parts for respectively operating the other components and is configured so that the respective components and integrated circuit parts are powered by the power supply only during use.
