The corrector (100) has ageing bit pattern memory (111) which is provided for storing ageing bit pattern (H). A bit pattern modifier (102) is provided for modifying non-corrected bit pattern (B) using ageing bit pattern. A bit pattern comparator (104) is provided for comparing non-corrected bit pattern with corrected pattern (BKORR) to determine comparison bit pattern (V). An ageing pattern determiner (134) is provided for determining new ageing bit pattern (HNEU) based on ageing bit pattern and comparison bit pattern. The new ageing bit pattern is stored in ageing bit pattern memory. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) method for correcting error in bit pattern; and (2) computer program for correcting error in bit pattern.
