<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a retardation film comprising polypropylene-based resin, capable of achieving improvement of wet heat resistance, low cost and suppression of reduction in contrast, and to provide a production method of the film. <P>SOLUTION: A retardation film comprises a polypropylene-based resin film, which is drawn to have an optical anisotropic axis. The resin film has an inner haze of 3% or less before drawing, and shows decrease in the inner haze down to 0.5% or less by drawing. When the retardation film is disposed between a pair of polarizing plates opposing to each other with the polarization axes perpendicular to each other in such a way that the optical anisotropic axis of the retardation film is aligned with one of the polarization axes of the pair of polarizing plates, light which is emitted from an inspection light source disposed outside of one polarizing plate and sequentially passes through the one polarizing plate, the retardation film and the other polarizing plate has a transmittance of 3×10<SP POS="POST">-3</SP>% or less.
