<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To maintain a separating member retreated from between a pair of rollers, in a retreat position in configuration of having the separating member for separating the pair of rollers. <P>SOLUTION: This image forming apparatus includes the pair of rollers for conveying paper between a driven roller 92 and a drive roller 91; the separating member (a separating gear part 130) turnably supported between a separating position in which the driven roller 92 is separated from the drive roller 91 and a retreat position in which the driven roller 92 can contact the drive roller 91; a release gear 93 turning the separating member into the retreat position from the separating position by the rotation of the pair of rollers; and a maintaining member for maintaining the separating member in a predetermined position. The maintaining member includes a cam part 120 turning integrally with the separating member, and a torsion spring 65 having a pressure arm 65A pressed by the cam part 120.
