<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projector that suppresses a pixel shift of a light modulator. <P>SOLUTION: A projector comprises: a plurality of liquid crystal light valves 52 for modulating a plurality of pieces of color light for each piece of color light; a cross dichroic prism for synthesizing the plurality of pieces of color light modulated by the plurality of liquid crystal light valves 52; and a projecting lens for projecting the color light synthesized by the cross dichroic prism. The projector further comprises: a holding section 6 for holding the plurality of liquid crystal light valves 52; a main body section 71 supported by the cross dichroic prism; and a supporting member 7 having first plate-like portions 73a, 73b, 73c and 73d that are bent from the main body section 71 and hold the holding section 6.
