<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a refrigerator that can cool even a large amount of storage material stored in a storage compartment to a target temperature, while suppressing electricity consumption when the amount of the storage material is small. <P>SOLUTION: The refrigerator includes: a temperature detecting means for detecting an internal temperature of the storage compartment; a shelf provided in the storage compartment and for placing a storage material thereon; and a weight detecting means for detecting a weight of the storage material placed on the shelf.
