SECURE COLLECTION AND VALIDATION OF LOYALTY POINTS

Secure collection and validation of loyalty points is described. In one example, a mobile communication device executes an application that enables a user to select a command to collect a loyalty point, then detect that the device is in proximity to a merchant. The device determines the location of the user, and transmits this location information and an indication of the collected loyalty point over a network for storage. When the user wishes to redeem a set of loyalty points, a redemption command is selected in the application and the set of points are validated by accessing possible valid locations for the merchant and determining whether the locations at point collection were within a threshold of the valid locations for the merchant. Once a set of loyalty points have been validated, they can be redeemed and the set of points flagged as redeemed.
