<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a planar illumination device which can be adjusted to desired luminance distribution, and to provide a liquid crystal display device that uses the same. <P>SOLUTION: A planar illumination device comprises: a laser light source which can emit laser light; a light guide plate comprising a plane of incidence for causing the laser light to be incident and a main plane for causing the laser light to emit as planar outgoing light; and an irradiation member which can irradiate over a predetermined area extending in a longitudinal direction of the light guide plate, with the laser light from the laser light source. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
