<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a copper foil for a collector of a lithium ion secondary battery using an electrode which includes an active material deposited on the collector, forming no wrinkle on the collector, causing no cracks and fracture on the collector, high in adhesion between the active material and the collector, and capable of maintaining stable performance for a long period of time, and also to provide a lithium ion secondary battery constituting an electrode by using the collector. <P>SOLUTION: A metal foil for a lithium ion secondary battery electrode is provided in which a surface-roughening treatment layer having a particle diameter of 0.1 to 3 μm is provided on the front and back faces of a metal foil having a smooth surface by roughening particle imparting treatment by burning plating; and both surfaces of the surface-roughening treatment layers have a surface roughness Rz of 0.5 to 5 μm while a difference in roughness Rz between the front and back surfaces is 2.5 μm or less.
