This lead storage cell is equipped with a battery case divided into a plurality of cell chambers by partitioning plates, a plurality of plate groups in which a plurality of positive plates and negative plates of an active material paste packed into a grating made of a lead alloy are disposed facing each other with a separator therebetween, and a lid for sealing the opening of the battery case. The plate groups and a liquid electrolyte are housed in the individual cell chambers, plates of the same polarity within a plate group being electrically connected to one another by connection members, and connection members of different polarities housed in adjacent cell chambers being connected to one another by penetrating connection members. A cushioning member that conforms to distension of the plate groups and deforms as a whole is disposed on the floor of the battery case, the cushioning member supporting the plate groups.
