Solid iron oxide support for isolation of microorganisms

The present invention concerns an iron oxide characterized by:
an X-ray diffraction pattern which has no reflection peak at the angle located in the 21 to 28° (2 theta) range, and has only one reflection peak (111) at the angle located in the 15 to 20° (2 theta) range; and
a Raman spectrum comprising a Raman spectral band centered at about 1400 ± 4 cm -1 , and bands present in the areas at 300-420, 430-570, 600-770 ± 4 cm -1 . It finds utility in the isolation of microorganisms, particularly the selective isolation of bacteria and yeast.
