<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an image recording apparatus and an image recording method, capable of providing image data suitable to an output destination display device at a high speed when outputting the images suitable for various kinds of display devices. <P>SOLUTION: A header information analyzing section 86 reads the header of an image file F10 designated by an image display instruction, and reads the resolutions of image data P1 to Pn included in the image file F10. If the image file F10 does not include image data of the resolution corresponding to the display resolution determined by the reproduction display resolution determining section 82, a display image resolution converting section 92 converts the image data of a lager size than the display resolution into image data of a resolution adaptive to the display resolution.
