PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a video output device which takes measures to cope with power saving in waiting for video signals. SOLUTION: A DVD recorder 1 comprises a first skirt connector 11, a second skirt connector 12, an input/output unit 10, a recorder main body unit 2, a first electronic switch 31 and a main power source 3. The input/output unit 10 comprises a video input/output composite power source 13, a microcomputer 14, a power-on power source 15, a second electronic switch 16, an audio input/output power source 17, a video RGB input/output power source 18, and a remote control receiving section 19. The microcomputer 14 is powered on at all other than a powered-off state. In a standby state, the microcomputer 14 turns off a first electronic switch 31 to cut off power supply to the recorder main body unit 2. Furthermore, in a case where no signal is inputted to an 8-pin input 141, the second electronic switch 16 is turned off to cut off power supply to the power sources 17, 18.
