PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus, an image forming apparatus, and an image processing method for achieving high-quality printing without a conspicuous change (jaggy) in the shape of a staircase of a letter image in double-surface printing. SOLUTION: The image processing apparatus 100 can execute predetermined image processing for the double-surface printing of images on an image forming medium. This image processing apparatus 100 is characterized by including a letter forming means 35c in which letter images 51 form a dot font 55 as a dot pattern of letters completed in intermediate processing using a predetermined coefficient for controlling rear-surface printing in the double-surface printing, a compensated dot forming means 41 to form a compensated dot 53 based on an arrangement location of the compensated dot 53 for conducting, in the letter images 51, compensation to alleviate a staircase change to contours of letters changed in the shape of the staircase, a color of the compensated dot 53, and the size of the compensated dot 53 for reproducing gradation having completed in the intermediate processing using the predetermined coefficient, and a combining means 42 for combining the dot font 55 and the compensated dot 53.
