The disclosed method for manufacturing a water-absorbing resin includes: a polymerization step in which an unsaturated monomer in an aqueous solution is polymerized; a drying step in which a water-containing cross-linked granular polymer gel, obtained in a microgranulation step during or after polymerization, is dried; a post-drying pulverization step; a post-drying sorting step; and a surface-treatment step, after the sorting step, in which a waster-absorbing resin powder is subjected to a surface treatment. Said method is characterized in that the surface-treatment step is halted, with a heat-treatment machine kept hot, and then subsequently restarted.
