PURPOSE: A manufacturing method of cellulose ether is provided to efficiently manufacture cellulose ether with high transparency. CONSTITUTION: A manufacturing method of cellulose ether comprises: a step of generating contact material by continuously bringing pulp(1) into contact with an alkali metal hydroxide solution(2) in a pipe type contacting device(10), and having the contact material flow through a pipe in the contacting device by an operation pump; a step of dehydrating the contact material; and a step of generating a cellulose ether by etherifying alkali cellulose(3) manufactured through the dehydration process by using an etherifying agent. The pipe-type contacting device has an ascending gradient part and the contact time of the pump and the alkali metal hydroxide solution is 2 seconds - 2 minutes.
