<p>Methods of forming a zigzag belt structure (39) for a pneumatic tire (10) are described. One method includes laying up a strip strip (41, 51, 52, 53, 54) in a first zigzag winding extending between a first lateral belt edge (44) and a second lateral belt edge (45) in an at least substantially zigzag or sine wavelength having a first amplitude (W1) in a first direction followed by a second amplitude (W2) extending in a direction opposite the first direction, wherein the amplitudes (W1, W2) are measured from the equatorial plane (EP), wherein the first amplitude (W1) is different from the second amplitude (W2);
indexing a strip an axial and/or circumferential distance; then
laying up a strip (41, 51, 52, 53, 54) in a second zigzag winding having a first amplitude (W2) followed by a second amplitude (W1) extending in a direction opposite said first amplitude (W2); and
repeating the first and second windings until the zigzag belt structure (39) is formed.</p> |
