PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve productivity or purity in an L-amino acid crystal in a method for producing an L-amino acid by a fermentation method including accumulating the L-amino acid in a medium with precipitation of the L-amino acid. SOLUTION: In the method for producing the L-amino acid by a fermentation method including culturing a microorganism having an L-amino acid-producing ability in a liquid medium to accumulate the L-amino acid in the medium with precipitation of the L-amino acid, a polymer selected from the group consisting of a water-soluble cellulose derivative, a water-soluble polyvinyl compound, a polar organic solvent-soluble polyvinyl compound, a water-soluble starch derivative, an alginic acid salt and a polyacrylic acid salt is added to the medium.
