<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic camera capable of displaying a subject within a display region even if the subject is positioned out of the display region in association with zooming operation. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The electronic camera includes: an image pickup element; an image processing means for applying predetermined image processing to a picked-up image and outputting the image as a full-size image 41; an image display means 22 for displaying the image; a template matching means 33 for detecting a matching region matching a predetermined template image 43 in the full-size image 41; a magnification factor designating means for designating a magnification factor of the image to be displayed; an electronically zooming means 32 for causing the image display means 22 to magnify and display the image in the designated magnification region; and a control means for controlling the electronically zooming means 32 in such a way that at least any one of the position of the magnification region in the full-size image and the magnification factor is changed so that the matching region may be included in the magnification region when the matching region is not included in the magnification region, and the image in the changed magnification region can be displayed.
