PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wound secondary battery having high energy density and high input and output characteristics. SOLUTION: The wound secondary battery has a rectangular solid-shaped battery can used as a battery container. An electrode group 14 in which beltlike positive electrode and negative electrode are wound flat around a winding core through a separator is stored in the battery can. Collector rings 4, 6 are disposed face to face on both end faces of the electrode group 14. A plurality of collecting tabs derived from the positive and negative electrodes are each bonded to the peripheral surfaces of the collector rings 4, 6, and both end parts of the winding core are each inserted and attached to the inner peripheral surface. Cylindrical electrode poles 3, 5 are integrated with the outer peripheral surfaces of the collector rings 4, 6 in the same direction crossing the winding axis direction of the electrode group 14, that is, in the upward direction of the battery. The upper end parts of the electrode poles 3, 5 serve both as a positive electrode external terminal 10 and a negative electrode external terminal 11 respectively.
