PURPOSE: A digital photographing device, a controlling method thereof, and an auto-focusing method are provided to perform an auto-focusing of an AF optical system by using infrared rays, thereby rapidly and accurately performing the auto-focusing without the degradation of photographing signals. CONSTITUTION: A digital photographing device(100b) comprises a lens(110), a light splitting unit(120), a photographing element(140), an auto-focusing unit(130), and a lens driving unit(150). The light splitting unit splits incident lights penetrated through the lens into a first passage and a second passage. The photographing element photoelectric-converts the incident lights of the first passage, thereby generating photographing signals. The auto-focusing unit generates lens driving signals by using the incident lights of the second passage. The lens driving unit drives the lens by using lens driving signals.
