A cup beverage vending machine (1) having a beverage dispensing assembly with fluid dispensing nozzles (9) located over respective cup stands (7); a beverage selection device (3); a lighting device (11) for lighting the cup stands (7); and an electronic control unit (15) connected to the beverage dispensing assembly, the beverage selection device (3) and the lighting device (11), and so configured that, in response to selection of a beverage, the lighting device (11) only illuminates the cup stand (7) on which a cup for the selected beverage is to be deposited.
