PURPOSE: An illumination optical system and an image displaying device are provided to construct the illumination optical system compact even in case of increasing the number of elements which become a light source. CONSTITUTION: An illumination optical system(10) comprises a 2D laser array light source(12), an integrator optical system(11), a plurality of first lenses(13), and a plurality of second lenses(14). The 2D laser array light source arranges a plurality of laser light sources on a plane by a 2D array shape. The integrator optical system superposes incident lights, thereby irradiating on an object surface. The first lens is arranged parallel to the plane and controls an emission angle of the 2D array to a first axial direction and superposes the lights from the 2D laser array light source to the first axial direction, thereby irradiating to the integrator optical system. The second lens is arranged in a rear side of the first lens and controls the emission angle to a second axial direction orthogonal to the first axial direction and superposes the lights from the 2D laser array light source to the second axial direction, thereby irradiating to the integrator optical system.
