Formation of biodiesel using microorganisms

A process for the formation of biodiesel comprising:

(I) obtaining a biooil containing at least one fatty acid glyceride;

(II) contacting the biooil with at least one microorganism capable of hydrolysing at least one ester bond of said at least one glyceride to form a hydrolysed biooil; and

(III) directly or indirectly using said hydrolysed biooil in biodiesel. The microorganism may be from the species Geobacillus or Acinetobacter, for example Acinetobacter venetianus. A hydrotreating step and an isomerisation step may be added between steps (II) and (III) above.
