The feeder (1) has a feeding device (10) onto which book covers (7.1-7.n) with same format are deposited singly. A cover magazine (20) is arranged to receive the covers from the feeding device. A separating device (23) is operatively arranged relative to the magazine. The feeding device, the cover magazine and the separating device are executed integrally or adjoining each other. The feeding device has a side guiding device (15) on a guiding side and/or a driving side, where the guiding device is divided into two sections (11, 12) arranged one behind the other in a production direction (P). An independent claim is also included for a method for producing a stack with book covers on a book cover feeder.
