PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an illumination system that can project with a picture looking natural to persons when correcting the picture to be projected at a projection surface.SOLUTION: An illumination system 1 comprises: a picture illumination projection unit 10 that projects a picture and illumination light; an imaging unit 20 that images the picture projected by the picture illumination projection unit 10; a difference computation unit 41 that, when letting a signal characteristic of an input picture to be input to the picture illumination projection unit 10 be a reference signal characteristic, computes a difference between the reference signal characteristic and a signal characteristic of the picture imaged by the imaging unit 20 for each pixel region; and a signal characteristic correction unit 42 that makes the signal characteristic of the imaged picture approximate to the reference signal characteristic for a pixel region in which the difference computed by the difference computation unit 41 is larger than a predetermined threshold.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
