<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide portable electronic equipment which allows a user to easily recognize its existence and displays a data display region that is easy to be used, and to provide a display control method. <P>SOLUTION: A display control unit 51 causes shortcut icons that enable the setting of given functions including an energy saving function and a sub-operation unit assignment setting function to be displayed on a standby screen of a display unit 2 in an initial state.
