Recording an AV stream on a recording medium together with PlayList information formed by a set of plural Playltems. A Playltem is represented by a pair of an IN-point and an OUT-point on the time axis. Clip information is provided, including time information of characteristic pictures in said AV stream, start address information associated with the Clip information, and map information correlating time information in said AV stream and data address information in said AV stream, wherein the data address in the AV stream is found by referencing the time information in said AV stream.
