PURPOSE: A method and an apparatus for receiving contents in a broadcast system are provided to explicitly indicate start and finish times of each segment and to select contents based on the state of a terminal. CONSTITUTION: A content which is chosen by a user is inputted. An adaptive streaming request message including information related to an object is transmitted to a home media server. A resource property is received from the home media server. Based on the resource property, a contents segment is selected according to the state of a network.
