There is provided a compound 12-Imidazolyl-1-dodecanol or pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof. Uses of 12-Imidazolyl-1-dodecanol or pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof for preventing or treating cancers, pathological sequelae of alcohol abuse, viral hepatitis, steatohepatitis, acute and chronic pancreatitis, toxic renal disorders, hepatic insulin resistance in diabetes mellitus, liver damage associated with Wilson's disease and sideroses, ischemia reperfusion damage, for use as an antidote to environmental poisons and medicament intoxication, for prolonging the residence time of medicaments in the organism, for controlling toxic side effects on administration of chemotherapeutic agents, for treating hyperlipidemia, or for preventing reperfusion damage in transplanted organs are also provided. Pharmaceutical preparations and medicaments are also contemplated.
