A manufacturing method of float plate glass is provides to decrease the fluctuations in the thickness of glass ribbon and the frequency for changing top rolls by employing thin film consisting of metal nitride on the surface of top rolls and to decrease the fluctuations in the thickness of thin film at the small end by employing vapor deposition method. A manufacturing method of float plate glass comprises processes of melting glass sources, forming glass ribbon with the melted glass and annealing the glass ribbon. In the process of forming glass ribbon, the melted glass is introduced in a melted Sn bath(3) from the downstream part(1) of the melting furnace. A float plate glass is formed by means of the tension which is applied perpendicularly to the stream of melted glass, against the melted glass ribbon on the melted Sn using top rolls(5), and the top roll has metal nitride thin film comprising chromium on the surface which is contact with at least the melted glass. The top roll is connected to the output shaft, and the top roll makes a revolution. A glass ribbon(4) is taken out from the melted Sn by means of lift-out roll(8). The glass ribbon is transferred to the annealing furnace(10) after cooling to about 600°C with coolers(6,7) for annealing process. |
