The device (1) has a tube (43) for projecting liquid i.e. water, in ground (S) above a buried explosive device (E) so as to form mud. A suction unit sucks the mud to dig the ground above the explosive device. The suction unit includes a suction pole (20) including a proximal end and a distal end that defines a suction head (23). The pole internally defines a pipe that extends between the ends of the pole. The suction unit includes a suction source (21) i.e. multi-turbine suction device, connected at the proximal end to suck the mud present at the level of the head through the pipe. An independent claim is also included for a mine clearance assistance method.
