The cell has an anode (10) for oxidizing a compound i.e. hydrogen, into hydrogen ions. An electrolyte (20) is in contact with the anode for conducting the hydrogen ions. A cathode (50) reduces another compound i.e. oxygen, into oxide ions. Another electrolyte (40) is in contact with the cathode for conducting the oxide ions. A porous central membrane (30) has two opposite faces that are in contact with the former electrolyte and the latter electrolyte, respectively. The electrolytes and the membrane are formed from same material such as ceramic e.g. barium cerate, which conducts both ions. An independent claim is also included for a method for manufacturing a fuel cell. |
