The device has edge covering profiles (6a, 6b) arranged at adjacent edges of coupled panels (1A, 1B). A deflector (16) has two opposite slopes (16a, 16b) arranged on two sides of a ridge (16c). The deflector is positioned such that the slopes are respectively guided above or into longitudinal recovery and drainage channels of the profiles. A longitudinal slip-tongue or positioning wedge (19) is engaged in longitudinal grooves or notches (18) of the profiles via opposite side parts of the slip-tongue or the wedge to realize tongue-and-groove joint of the panels. An independent claim is also included for a method for side-by-side connection of sandwich panels.
