The method involves charging a battery to reach predetermined maximum voltage (Umax) for specific time (t1) in a phase. The constant voltage of the battery is measured for another specific time (t2) in another phase when the current at terminals of the battery falls below threshold value (lseuil). State of health (SOH) of the battery is calculated from the measured time and the charging time. The current threshold value lies between the value of the constant current of the former phase of the battery and current (lmin) in end of charging of the battery. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a device for diagnosing a battery of a motor vehicle (2) a computer readable medium comprising a set of instructions to perform a method for diagnosing a battery of a motor vehicle.
