A capsule inspection device for carrying out an inspection method of the present invention is provided for inspecting a filter article having a built-in liquid-filled capsule. The capsule inspection device has: an inspection position specified in a conveyor line for the continuous body (R) of a smoking filter which is one of the filter articles; an infrared light irradiation unit (30) and an infrared sensor (32) both disposed at this inspection position so as to sandwich the continuous body (R); and a determination unit (34) connected to this infrared sensor (32). The infrared light irradiation unit (30) irradiates infrared light to the continuous body (R), the infrared light including infrared with a specific wavelength that is absorbed by a content liquid in the liquid-filled capsule. The infrared sensor (32) receives transmitted infrared light after passing through the liquid-filled capsule (C) inside the continuous body (R). The determination unit (34) determines, based on the amount of the transmitted infrared light, whether the content liquid in the liquid-filled capsule (C) is good or not.
