<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display unit which suppresses conventional reduction in contrast due to residual phase difference resulting from the variation in the pretilt angle of a liquid crystal panel in phase compensation by installation of a phase compensation plate corresponding to the pretilt angle of the liquid crystal panel in vertically aligned VAN mode. <P>SOLUTION: The voltage applied to a liquid crystal panel is adjusted based on leakage light angle distribution of a phase compensation plate, so that the liquid crystal panel is provided with a pretilt angle having a similar leakage light angle distribution. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
