Links are established for three pieces of hierarchical data (170, 172, 174) and one piece of video data (182). When display areas overlap in a link area (178) while the hierarchical piece of data 172 is being used to display an image, a switch is made to a display that uses the zeroth hierarchy of the hierarchical piece of data 174 (link b). A link destination for a separate link area (180) of the hierarchical piece of data 170 is the video data (182) (link c), and if said area is magnified, video playback begins. Hierarchical data (170 and 172) are retained on a client terminal side, and a server transmits data that crosses over a switching boundary (184) to the client terminal in a data stream format.
