PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve thinness as well as low refractive index of a protective film to protect a display region in an organic electroluminescent element, and to improve efficiency and lifetime.

SOLUTION: A display device comprises: a display region 20 of resonator structure to resonate light generated; a protective film 17 formed in a state covering the display region 20; a resin layer 18 to be formed on the protective film 17; and a sealing layer 19 pasted up by the resin layer 18. The protective film 17 is constructed of a single layer of silicon nitride, and a refractive index at wavelength 450 nm is 1.65 or more and 1.75 or less.
