<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device that allows recognition of image display even in a dim environment around a liquid crystal display device. <P>SOLUTION: A pixel is provided with a pixel electrode having both a region reflecting light that is incident via a liquid crystal layer and a transmission region. Image display is allowed with both modes of a reflection mode using external light as an illumination light source and a transmission mode using a backlight. In the case where the brightness of external light is not enough and the environment is dim, the backlight is turned on to provide a small amount of light and display is performed in the reflection mode, thereby achieving the image display. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
