<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an encoder which has no need to previously calculate power consumption during backup by a test, etc., which accurately calculates a battery life, and which can properly output a warning to the outside according to the calculated battery life. <P>SOLUTION: An encoder 3 includes a battery life determining part 7 which calculates power consumption of a battery 4 during the shutdown of a main power source on the basis of a shutdown time of the main power source and a battery residual capacity calculated from an output voltage of the battery 4 and which also calculates an available time of the battery 4 for backing up the encoder 3 by using the power consumption of the battery 4 and a residual capacity of the battery 4 after restoring the main power source, so as to output a warning to the outside. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
