The rail (1) has a plastic sliding guide (2) fastened on a carrier body (4) in order to provide a sliding surface for a continuous traction unit of a traction drive. The carrier body is made of a stamped sheet metal part, and comprises a hole (5) defining a pivot point (6) such that the rail is swingable around the pivot point. The carrier body has a supporting region bringing into contact with a tensioner e.g. hydraulic or mechanical chain tensioner, on a side of the pivot point. The supporting region is provided within guide flanges (11) that are formed at an edge (12) of the carrier body. An independent claim is also included for a traction drive.
