The sensor (1) has a light transmission unit (3), and a receiver (5) arranged at a distance to the transmission unit. The transmission unit emits transmission light beams (2) in the form of beam bundles such that light spots (13a, 13b) are formed on an object (10) to be detected. The receiver receives receiving light beams (4). An evaluation unit (7) determines distance of the object by using position and/or form of the spots and gaps (14) that separate the spots. The transmission unit comprises transmitters (11a, 11b) and a deflection unit that is arranged downstream of the transmitters. An independent claim is also included for a method for executing distance measurement by using an optical sensor.
