The invention relates to a device for stabilising parts of the body. In order to provide a novel device for stabilising parts of the body in the field of sports and medical rehabilitation, which device can be sold as a pre-fabricated off-the-peg product or as a semi-finished tailor-made product, according to the invention a plastic element can be removably connected to a textile backing layer that substantially has the same shape as the part of the body to be stabilised, said element stabilising the shape of said textile backing layer. The device provides protection both during the user's own movement and against external forces.
