<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide means for suppressing uneven luminance even when a light source is disposed at the end surface of a light guide plate while improving polarization separation efficiency. <P>SOLUTION: The light guide plate 1 includes: a light guide layer 30 for introducing light emitted from a light source 11 inside from an incident surface 30a which is a side face; a polarization separation layer 40 including a plurality of first birefringent fibers 41 extending parallel to the incident surface and arranged vertically to the incident surface and a first isotropic holding medium 42 holding the first fiber and having a refractive index matched with the ordinary ray refractive index or the extraordinary ray refractive index of the first fiber, and stacked on the light guide layer to derive desired polarized light of the light in the light guide layer from a light-emitting surface which is one principal surface of the light guide layer; a light homogenization layer 50 including a plurality of second birefringent fibers 51 extending vertically to the incident surface and arranged parallel to the incident surface and a second isotropic holding medium 52 having a refractive index different from at least one of the ordinary ray refractive index and the extraordinary ray refractive index of the second fiber, and stacked on the light guide layer. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
