A driving assistance device comprises: an alertness degree detection means for detecting a degree of alertness of a driver; a driver state inducing means (120) for blowing cold air on the driver's hand parts according to the driver's degree of alertness when the driver's degree of alertness is at or below a prescribed value; a hand part temperature measurement means (106) for measuring the temperature of the driver's hand parts; a temperature change detection means for detecting a change state of the temperature of the hand parts on the basis of the result of the measurement of the hand part temperature measurement means; a notification means for notifying the driver with an alert; an alertness effect assessment means for assessing whether an alertness effect has been obtained for the driver by the blowing of the cold air according to the degree of alertness based on the change state of the temperature of the hand parts; and a control means for stopping the driver state inducing means from blowing the cold air according to the driver's degree of alertness when it is assessed that the alertness effect is not being obtained.
